South Georgia heat and mug

fighting through sand spurs to get in the canoe

 the cool, restful, shade-dark house

dear Mr. Schomburg and his beloved canvas canoe

swift water currents, hard work going upstream

drifting down stream to the sounds of Chopin etudes on the hi-fi

avoiding the overgrown edges where water moccasins hid

banks of maidenhair fern, sometimes dripping with tiny waterfalls

arguing with Ginny about who paddled harder

gaining a life long skill and joy
